MIND MATTERS - November 1, 2013 - Inspiration from Source: The Mind matters. 

My stress level has been on the climb over the last ten days. First worries over mom, then worries over catching up when I got back home. This is how I used to be ALL the time - body tight like metal bands wrapped around my skin.

Last night the inevitable happened as the stress mounted - I began to have an asthma attack. I have learned to use my asthma as a gauge. When I start having trouble breathing, a massage therapist will likely tell me that my back has become hard as stone. I stop breathing in response to stress.

Now you probably all know that that 100% of all deaths occur when breath stops. So, not breathing - this is a bad thing. I have always thought that Asthma took away my choice of whether to breathe or not. Asthma was in control.

Last night I sat down (wheeze), grounded my feet in the ground (wheeze), closed my eyes (wheeze) and said, "I call upon the energy of the source of all life. (wheeze) I call upon the energy of the source of all life. (wheeze) I call upon the energy of the source of all life. (shallow breath) I call upon the energy of the source of all life. (deeper breath). I call upon the energy of the source of all life. (deep breath)." I then sat and breathed. Deeply. 

Normally this would take a shot of Albuterol and I would be running for the Singulaire. But when I started meditating on March 17, 2013...all wheezing had stopped. The stress hit a high yesterday, as I readied for a surprise vacation at the same time as dealing with emotions about mom, and tried to catch up on a week of work...I hit the old days.

But meditation is the way. The mind really matters. Going into stillness, inviting peace, allowing everything to fall away and suddenly - I could breath.

I am probably the most stressed I've been since the beginning of the year - and yet, I'm the most relaxed. The power of the mind. It's a beautiful thing. 

So when you get very, very stressed. Close your eyes and let it all go. Take it from someone who used to have regular hospital visits over lack of breath...your mind is more powerful than you know.
